Displaced

In the artist's home culture woven mats are for seating, bedding and storing purposes. In this work the artist breaks the rule of traditional weaving by leaving unfinishes tassels and twisting the mats to create unfamiliar forms. The disjointed, contorted shapes represent the sense of displacement many feel when they find themselves in an unfamiliar culture or environment.
